Viaduct House, Lydbrook

This is a gem of a holiday house for a large family. There was plenty of space for 16 of us and the house is very well appointed. It stayed relatively cool in the very hot weather. We would definitely would go again

Overall we weren't impressed. The owner comms were good but the provisions underwhelming not enough loo rolls there should have been two extra in each bathroom spares locked away in the utility room but we had to email the owner to ask where to find them and no welcome pack provided. The bathrooms are missing some TLC with cracked and moldy seals and taps difficult to use. The beds were comfy and fresh. The welcome book useful. We filled the house the majority female so access to bathrooms was an issue at times. We had great weather so used outdoors a lot. We were concerned for our grandkids about the drops from both the upper lawn and patio one had a very close call. We had to repair the outside, metal chairs as a few arms were hanging loose we found spares in the cellar. If the weather had kept us indoors we would have struggled because in our opinion the leisure space is not adequate for the number of bedrooms. However, the living room furniture was comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We had planned to use the pizza oven but it was too small to feed us all. We did use the BBQ happily. The location is perfect but parking tricky. We had six cars and one parking space. The are places on the main road and in front of a public toilet we managed. Takeaway beers from the pub across the road added a pleasant bonus as did picking out of season blackberries! We had a great time but wouldn't return. Not quite big enough for our family but, I think, we realised it was a compromise when we booked.

A beautiful property! Views were amazing, we had 14 of us, all very comfortable, garden was lovely and we had such a wonderful time playing games and catching up, brilliant communication from the hosts. Seriously recommend to all if youre looking for a relaxing beautiful escape of celebration!

We had a lovely family stay at Viaduct House. Celebrating dads 80th birthday. Three generations rarely all get together so it was a lovely break and suited us fine. It had everything you could wish for. Liked the fact that all 8 bedrooms were similar size so no body got the best room as they were all good! I guess our only slight inconvenience if being picky was the lack of toilet downstairs and no ensuits, but appreciate it wouldnt be possible due to the age of the house. Highly recommend

We really enjoyed our family weekend at Viaduct House. There was good comfortable accommodation. It was very clean and welcoming. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery. We took the children 4 and 6 to Perrygrove Railway which I recommend. We had Sunday lunch at the Hostelerie in Goodrich which was fantastic. the take away curry from the Forge Hammer was also good. A note if you've got dogs, the garden isn't entirely dog proof. The children loved playing on the different levels. Any issue or question we had which we were there the owner answered promptly, he was very helpful.

Very well equipped house with comfortable bedrooms and enough bathrooms for a full house. Well situated for tourist attractions and walking.Pleasant garden with outdoor seating.

Lovely location right near the river. We had a great time as the weather was glorious and we were able to eat all meals ouside in the lovely garden. Downstairs space and bathrooms were just about adequate for16 people but we mght have struggled if the weather hadn't been so good..Bedrooms were just right.

This is a lovely property to spend time with an extended family spanning 3 generations. It is spacious, comfortable and welcoming and gardens were ideal for children and dog. The property is also very close to amenities both for shopping and exploring the Forest of Dean.

Viaduct House is a lovely house set in a wonderful and interesting area. The facilities are first class. The bedrooms are large and well decorated and the beds extremely comfortable. The large kitchen is well equipped and one of the best I have ever had with a cottage rental. We were celebrating a significant birthday and the chef we used for the main family meal was impressed with the kitchen. We were able to sit 13 people ages 6 to 75 comfortably round the dining table and everyone was relaxed and had a wonderful time. Viaduct House was the perfect venue for our family get together.

We had a great girlie weekend at Viaduct House. We found the space and size really good and the overall feel and look of the house was lovely. We had cosy evenings with a real fire and leisurely meals at the table in the kitchen. Loved the underfloor heating in the kitchen! Beds were comfortable. There were a few minor things that do need attention tho' which would take away any future niggles. The major one being that the bathrooms have black mould in places like round the shower screen hinges and the grout which is not pleasant. The top bathroom shower drained very slowly so could be a potential blockage occurring and two bulbs are out. WiFi code isn't in any of the blurb from Sykes. The pale blue armchairs in the bay window living room are filthy and need cleaning. There were cobwebs in at least one of the bedrooms behind the door. The lighter for the gas hob aren't working. The toaster only has half the slots working. The knives are so blunt they are dangerous and could do with a sharpen and finally some pads on the feet of the dining chairs would be really kind on the ears when moving them around on that lovely kitchen floor! The communication with Sykes and the owners was really good and very helpful. Please don't think this list means we didn't enjoy our stay, we did and would happily stay again and recommend to others,

Perfect for our needs. Care was needed as expected on the stairs to the front door but we coped. Would have been useful to have some written instructions on dealing with rubbish and dirty linen etc.

Very comfortable and well equipped house in a great location. Plenty of space for our 3 night family gathering of 15. Good weather a bonus for our trips to Goodrich Castle, Beechenhurst Forest and Puzzlewood !

We spent a lovely weekend at Viaduct House celebrating an 80th birthday with 15 family members. Accommodation was perfect with very comfortable beds and a spacious kitchen although kitchen headroom is tight, Im 6 4. We had outside caterers in for Saturday night and they found the kitchen very well equipped enabling them to produce a 3course meal for 15! The surrounding area is truly beautiful and it was a shame we were only there for the weekend.

Lovely old property with character. Great location for canoeing and walking in the Forest of Dean. Landlord very helpful and prompt at responding. Comfortable beds. Has everything you need. Probably not suitable for young children or elderly that arent very agile but great for family groups or friends.

An amazing house in a great location. Plenty of places to visit within half an hour by car. Thoroughly recommend this. The only limitation for some would be the steps in the garden.

A lovely large property with very good facilities. The beds were very comfy. The bedrooms were large. It easily accommodated our 8 adults, 5 children and a baby and 2 dogs. There is a nice piece of lawn for the dogs and only about 50yds down the road is a small park next to the Wye. There is a huge dining table that we easily fit around. We liked Beechenhurst in the forest which is only 10 minutes away for dog walks and a lovely dog friendly cafe. Cafe Vanille which is almost opposite the house is lovely and dog friendly with great food. A lovely location and house.

An excellent property that provided all we needed for a big family birthdayget together.

We had a 2 night stay at the property for a family get together. We all loved the house, which is very attractive and well equipped with a pretty garden and terrace. The bedrooms are all very spacious and the beds comfortable. There were 10 of us so we managed well with 3 bathrooms that might have been more difficult had there been more people 3 others were unable to come due to illness. A separate downstairs loo would be a great addition to the property. The kitchen dining area is particularly well set up for a large group. The weather was not kind, but we managed to bbque on Saturday night and to sit outside for drinks, which was lovely. We had our 89 year old father with us and he found the steps up to the house and up to the terrace very difficult as there are no hand rails anywhere. And there are a couple of drops in the garden off the terrace and off the top grass area which are not fenced in any way and which would have been very tricky had our 2 year old grandson been with us as expected. However, all in all, we had a very enjoyable stay and would consider renting the house again if returning to the area.

This is a lovely property, even better in real life although some of the pictures dont reveal the full layout ie the staircase which is an integral part of the property has lots of character. Also three toilets, two with a shower and bath although and one described as a shower room only! So a real bonus. Great location and although parking isnt great for multiple cars it wasnt a problem finding onstreet parking opposite. Lovely interesting and well maintained gardens which our dog absolutely loved exploring and it was very chilled to sit at the 10 people table and look out over the lovely hills and countryside. Lots of interesting parts of the property and its worth reading the history. The kitchendiner was superb and the lovely 1214 seat table was a great place to have family meals or just hang out. Though the most sort out area was one of the living rooms bay window with its views and leather sofa to sit and watch the world go by. Although the property was only metres from the road it still felt very secluded and the lower floors you couldnt see the road. Its also right opposite a pub grumpy landlord though and an amazing tea shopcafe Cafe Vanille which supplied a ridiculously good value for money delicious home made afternoon tea for 12, delivered direct to the property! The larger bedrooms at the front of were particularly nice and all the beds were super comfy. The grandkids absolutely loved their room on the top floor! A stair gate is provided which made the top floor into a kind of private apartment for my daughters family! Lol A great base to explore the area or just hang out as a family and the perfect property to create lots of memories that will last a lifetime.

We had a fabulous stay! The welcome pack was so unexpected and delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for Gavin and anything that needed sorting was resolved very quickly! We had a wonderful weekend!

Viaduct House was a great venue for family and friends to get together to celebrate three milestone birthdays. The rooms were all beautifully decorated, spacious and well equipped and the beds were very clean and comfortable. Cooking for up to 16 people can be tricky but the kitchen was excellent with all the equipment I could have wanted including a superb fridge freezer and a good sized dishwasher. The garden was lovely for the two dogs and the two grandchildren to play, and they spent hours playing hideandseek all around the garden whilst the adults sat in the sunshine at the comfortable chairs on the patio sipping wine and chatting. We had two lovely barbecues in the evening sun on the patio taking in the fresh air and the beautiful views. Lydbrook was a perfect venue from which to visit all parts of the Forest of Dean and surroundings. All in all a great week in a lovely area and in a beautiful house.

Viaduct House was a perfect stay for our extended family wonderful house in a wonderful location we had the best time. Two living areas, spacious bedrooms and a wonderful garden were all appreciated as well as the well appointed kitchen. The fresh cake, bread and eggs on arrival were an unexpected delight, and we enjoyed the friendly pub and cafe across the road, thank you!

This house is incredible! We used this house for 14 adults, one baby and two dogs. There was plenty of space for us to spread out around the house but to also come together at the huge kitchen table or outside seating area. The owners of this house have thought of everything. The beds were comfortable and the rooms spacious. On our arrival we were provided with fresh eggs, homemade bread, butter and a delicious cake, big enough for us all to have a slice. The owners sent me all the details of the house and of any restaurants or places to visit we might like to visit. I just wish we had been staying longer than a weekend. We have made such fantastic family memories. I would highly recommend this awesome house.

Lovely holiday house for large family of 16celebrating a big birthday. Beautiful setting with lovely garden and well equipped patio.The welcome gifts were lovely particularly the cake. The only fault I can recall was the large kettle which had a loose connector which had to be carefully positioned. It was safe but a nuisance to manage. One other potential issue was the top bedroom door which would not open from inside when firmly shut.

Viaduct House was a lovely place to stay for my friends hen party weekend, suitable for 16 adults as long as 8 people are willing to share beds with someone else. Lovely good size bedrooms and comfortable beds. The house is in a gorgeous location right near the river and only 15 minutes from the nearest grocery shops, despite being in a small village. The hosts were great, setting up the top floor as twin beds, and allowing us to leave whenever we liked on the Sunday. They even made us up a fabulous welcome hamper with bread, butter, eggs, milk and a massive cake! The only thing I would suggest is maybe some investment in new oven trays, spatulas and knives as these were a little lacking the trays were quite dirty, spatulas were a bit melted and the knives blunt. I would also say we had some wet weather so it could have been good to provide a doormat to wipe wet shoes on by the front door. It was a bit of a squeeze to sit all of us in 1 room to use the TV screen but we made it work. Thanks for having us!

A very beautiful house in a great location. The house has lots of history which the owners have detailed on a picture in the kitchen, which was lovely to read. The house was extremely well equipped and we were not short of anything during our stay. The owners, when contacted, were extremely helpful and friendly.

We had an amazing stay at Viaduct house for my 40th birthday. The house is absolutely beautiful and the log burners were cosy. Definitely recommend a visit.

Lovely big house for a family get together. Kitchen and dining area are superb and very well furnished. Two living roomslounges are ideal to allow for splitting into groups, i.e. games in one and quieter time in other. One loo was blocked on arrival but was sorted very quickly after reporting. Parking is not ideal but we arrived with 4 cars and managed to park without a problem. Lovely welcome pack of milk, bread, eggs and panettone. Had a great stay.

This was an ideal holiday property for a large family group. The house is beautiful, the kitchen is a wonderful space to cook and eat in and the beds are extremely comfortable. It was lovely to have one of the living rooms with an TV and the other without. The owner was friendly and helpful and the booking process through Sykes cottages went very smoothly. We enjoyed exploring the magnificent countryside.

A perfect house for a big family gathering plenty of room for 7 adults, 4 children and a baby with still room to spare. Very comfortable and well equipped it had everything we could possibly need! Excellent advice and tips from owner on the run up to holiday and on arrival a hamper of essentials and a huge jam spongedelicious. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

Brilliant family house, everything thought of for our comfort and catering purposes. Ideal situation beside the River Wye and the Forest of Dean with loads of outdoor activities for all age family entertainment. Lovely outdoor seating area and bbq, just suited us so well.

Great space for all 14 of us and the dog. Excellent location near the river and very comfy beds with great linen.

A great house for large family get togethers. It is also in a good location with plenty to do within 20 minutes drive. Some lovely walks from the house too. The house is very well equipped with a lovely large table in the kitchen for family meals. A good pub and Indian takeaway across the road.

Fantastic House. Warm, clean,inviting and well stocked. We had friends come to stay for a long weekend. Kitchen was well stocked for all those basic ingredients, salt,pepper,sauces, cooking oils etc.. Utensils, pots and pans all present. Dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, hand soap and toilet rolls all provided. Had an issue with smoke alarms going off, all sorted in a quick and efficient manner. Pub and indian takeaway opposite Forge Hammer and River Spice. Great food and a micro brewery what more do you need!! Fab place.
