The Smithy Reviews

Super cottage. Great location. Really well equipped. We had a great stay. 1010.
What a great holiday home , 3 generations stayed for a week . The house was very clean and tidy plenty of bedding amd towels etc . Facilities in the house were excellent , plenty of room , great house layout for all the family. Great location visited out to beach Blyth Whitely Bay ..which is a fantastic Blue flag beach. Nearby National trust properties were also in reach. Bamburgh , Wallingsea and Cragside. Unfortunately ..no fault of the owners, but would have been nice to have been made aware that there are roadworks outside house and along the road that are going to be in place for several months, and what with the road being narrow, it is difficult to navigate . Road closed signs are in place at both ends .. luckily we had smallish vehicles to manage but beware if you you have larger car. Would have been nice to have a washing line and maybe a parasol for big outside table . Overall a very very enjoyable stay , would definitely rebook . Thankyou
Francesca
This property adequately accommodated up to 10 people. It had two ovens, two fridgefreezers and more than sufficient space to store food for the week. It was, on arrival and first sight great, however, it does need some urgent tlc. There was no outdoor washing line which would have been a great addition, especially as the airer had seen better days. Inside a deep clean was needed. Windows were dirty, there were dusty ornaments and accessories, the ceiling in the kitchen is full of dust, cobwebs and marks. The dust behind the double beds is excessive, especially in the top queenside suite as I went to plug my phone in I saw the dust was so thick I didnt want to put anything behind there. The fabric headboards need a proper fabric clean, they have the dirty hair smell and need freshening up. The downstairs toilet needs a steam clean, the smell of stale urine is quite strong. I think some mattress protectorsmattresses could do with a clean, there were some visible stains under the bottom sheets. Lots of furniture maintenance is required the curtain pole in the lounge is loose and the wardrobe in the single bedroom isnt stable or secured to the wall, the screws appear to have been pulled out. The desk in the play room isnt stable, we couldnt find the remote controls until day 2. The outdoor furniture was rickety, the wooden set couldnt be sat on as the benches tipped like seesaws. The wicker set had no glass table top and no cushions that fitted the set. The dishwasher doesnt appear to be secured properly and is really difficult to open. For a scorching weekend the lack of functional, outdoor furniture was noticed. We purchased outdoor games and the outdoor space was well used. There is a large number of wasps, but fortunately its early in the season and they were busy getting wood for building nests, which I think there are plenty of within the area every shop we went in had no citronella candles so we had nothing to deter them, but they werent aggressive and just flew around. We had to keep windows closed though which was unexpected with extremely high temperatures. A blind over the velux windows would have been beneficial. The good points the setting is stunning, surrounded by fields the peace and tranquility was exceptional. The beds were comfortable, bedding sheets note comment above about under the clean sheets and towels clean. The Smithy should be a premium property, the play room is great for little people, but so much was broken it just became a tv room once they found the remotes. The dining room table was great for a big family meal, but wed have loved the opportunity to eat outside with a large dining set and parasol. The pictures to enable booking look great, the setting is stunning, the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and utensils. Overall, the house needs a deep clean and broken furniture removed or replaced. Being able to contact Sykes was an absolute nightmare ahead of arrival, accessibility to a human to speak to was like getting blood out of a stone. It took hours over numerous days to finally get hold of someone. This needs to be addressed. The early checkout and late arrival was eventually adjusted, which was hugely appreciated, but the effort required to achieve that was incomprehensible. Overall, a fabulous setting, Newcastle is only 30 minutes away, the airport 15 minutes, the location was excellent. Surrounded by some gorgeous national trust properties and so close to a magnificent coastline it was a perfect location for us. The house has the potential to be absolutely amazing, we did have a good stay, it was just disappointing to see so much that needed repairing or deep cleaning.
Lovely property in beautiful peaceful location. Handy for Ponteland restaurants. Very clean & comfortable with excellent facilities. Our only comment was lack of basic cleaning materials cloths etc. Suggest it would be helpful to provide more. Highly recommend this property.
Our second visit to The Smithy and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first visit. Really clean and well maintained with everything you need. Will never tire of the views. Would definitely return again!
An absolutely wonderful property was excellent for us and our extended family. The smithy is a spacious property and they have thought of everything accommodation wise. The only thing we would comment is the late check in and early leave time 5.30pm check in and 9am check out we are used to to 4pm and 10am so on the last day it was a very early start and a rush to get out by 9.

Lovely cottage on peaceful setting in Northumberland. Home was clean and tidy. Owner was very kind and accommodating. Would highly recommend for anyones Holiday.
This is our second time at the Smithy and we were just as impressed. Lovely, large house comfortable, relaxing and stylish. All amenities you could need and a cook's kitchen. The house was lovely and warm. The outside area would have been nice to use if spring weather had been a bit more cooperative!
Fabulous house, a couple of small maintenance jobs didnt affect anything stunning area, we were lucky enough to have fabulous weather and to top it off lambs in the field opposite. We highly recommend The Smithy if youre looking for luxury in a fabulous county.

Great property. Perfect base for exploring Newcastle, Blyth and Bamburgh. Thanks
Super property, which was much bigger and more beautiful in person. Decorated very tastefully and has everything you need. Lovely rural location and plenty of parking for group bookings. The only things I found slightly disappointing was there was little hot water to say the size of the house so it wasnt possible for the whole group to have a shower in a morning. Also check out time was very early which ruined our last day. Would be ok I youd been there a longer period of time but as we only stayed a weekend it seemed very rushed getting all cleaned, tidy, cold showered and out by 9.30. Would be nice for an option of a later checkout.

A lovely well equipped home . We really enjoyed our stay there and wouldnt hesitate to return. A few minor changes would make it even better An earlier check in and later checkout would be good. Cushions for the outside furniture would be nice. The sofa bed doesnt work well Our party consisted of 9 people so there wasnt really enough comfortable seating in the lounge for all of us More info on the location places to visit, pubs , restaurants, location of shops, doctors, dentists etc would be good A visitors book would be useful
We had the most wonderful time at The Smithy, such a beautiful house, my family and I loved every minute of it. Amazing countryside, so much to see. We would definitely come back. Thank you
Muhammad
Honestly the best stay for our anniversary loved the house it was super clean and perfect for our family get away! The best location super quiet all you can here is sheep and the birds, the only thing I couldn't find any more black bags for the bin. overall the stay was the best and we will be back!
The house and garden is beautiful and quite a handy location. The only negative feedback I have is that the check in time and the check out time are very late early 530pm check in and 9am check out. I really think you should look at this. Having to get 4 kids out of the house by 9 the morning after a family wedding and strip sheets etc really affected the quality of our weekend
We stayed here the night before my daughters wedding so she actually left this property to become a wife. The whole experience was amazing top floor was ideal as it had a huge dressing area where her hairdresser and make up artist were able to get her ready. We could not fault this property at all it was beautiful clean comfortable and spacious with lovely grounds outside would highly recommend. Worth every penny.
The Smithy was a very well equipped holiday cottage, was very spacious to accommodate all of our group comfortably, and was great for more than one family. The only negative thing we would say is that the check in time is very late and the checkout time very early compared with other holiday cottages.
A cosy, comfortable, well equipped and clean holiday let. Ideal for family get together before Christmas children loved the Christmas decorations. Our second stay at this property this year and thoroughly enjoyed once again. Lots to do in the area. Strongly recommend.
An excellent, well equipped property. Very comfortable and ideal for a family get together. Would definitely recommend it and even though the weather was not the best for our stay we still enjoyed the many facilities of the property and the many places to visit locally.
The house was perfect for our family gettogether spacious and wellappointed. We had a couple of issues when we first arrived internet problems and no soap or toilet paper in a bathroom, but the owners quickly dealt with them.

We had a lovely family gettogether at The Smithy. We couldnt have asked for anything better. It was perfectly clean and modern with a wellequipped kitchen. All round it was cosy and comfortable with plenty of space to allow for both communal individual needs. Books and games were a nice touch too! Set in a lovely quiet location, its not for those who want facilities a short walk away, but jump in your car and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area.
Place was great, loved the location, how modern it was, the comfort I will book again and recommend to others as this is a great place to stay with a large group, familyfriends.
Hi had a fantastic stay with family. Everything was spot on. Only bug to us was it would have been good to have a microwave to quickly heat things up after a long day out. Also no instructions for the right hand oven. Would definitely come back again. Thanks
Another great stay at The Smithy. This was our 2nd visit and was just as good as the 1st time. Great cottage and location.
Great holiday
Our family had a fantastic stay here. The location is great will lots of places to eat close by. We loved how quiet the roads were as it meant we could take the kids ages 2, 5 and 11 out on their bikes straight from the house. The house it beautiful and well thought out, we will definitely be back. Thank you
Quality house in beautiful rural location. Lots of space and very well maintained and clean property
Andrew
Excellent property. Stayed here on a half term week for a wedding nearby. Really great finish, space in a rural location.
We had a fantastic stay at The Smithy. The house was great and had plenty space and was well equipped. We were a family of 4 adults and 2 children, and the house was enjoyed by all. It was in a great, quiet location close to Ponteland and lots of local places to visit.
We were expecting a high standard from the advert and the price and we were not disappointed. Very well appointed house with everything we needed for our stay. Beautiful setting and beautiful house. Would recommend and would come again
Lovely place to stay we really enjoyed it am not the type to do a review to be ... Lovely place to stay we really enjoyed it am not the type to do a review to be honest but this place was worth writing one about thanks for a great weekend
Alison
A lovely holiday home with plenty of space, comfortably sleeping 9 people, I can't fault the accommodation. A lovely quiet and peaceful location but near to amenities. The road leading to the house is very narrow but we only met on coming vehicles once or twice. A few more leaflets with information on things to do in the area or local takeaways would have been useful. I appreciate the check in and out times have been changed due to covid but an extra 3 hours for cleaning seems excessive as simply changing cleaning materials should have addressed this. Not being able to arrive until 5.30 really shortened the first day especially as there is not much to do in the immediate vicinity, being out by 9am is a very tight turnaround for 9 people especially if they have young children. We left at 9 but there was no sign of anyone arriving to clean. That said we had a very enjoyable stay and I would definitely recommend this house.
Vivienne
Lovely week in this beautiful house. Everything was as wed hoped it would be.

House was very clean and god facilities although a microwave would have been useful. My main issue is that my 4 year old daughter was stuck in her bedroom until after 2pm as her bedroom door was jammed shut. A gentleman came round to fix the door but could not so they got a tractor with a cherry picker basket attached and bought this to her bedroom window. As the blinds were poorly fitted the bedroom window could not open more than around 8 inches hid knows what would have happened in a fire and my daughter had to squeeze through this gap 15 feet in the air into the arms of a farm labourer and deposited onto the cherry picker. The thing that was disappointing was that there has been no apology for the inconvenience obviously we could not go out with her until this was resolved and also no follow up to see if Hannah was ok after the incident. It almost felt that they were concerned about admitting liability!
An absolutely amazing holiday cottage in a beautiful, quiet location. The property was very well maintained, spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The owners were very helpful and the welcome pack was most appreciated. Our only disappointment is that we didn't book for longer!
Lovely house in small village with no facilities but this suited us as it was very quiet and peaceful . Owners , who lived near by helpful . House was well equipped and very stylish . Only thing we felt was lacking was more garden furniture . We loved it . Thank you .
We have just returned from four nights staying at The Smithy and will definitely be booking again. This is a fantastic property in a beautiful location ideal for visiting coastal and inland Northumberland, together with some lovely walks if you want to stay local. The property is very well equipped, lots of space and furnished to a high standard. We were lucky to have beautiful clear sunny days but as the temperature dropped in the evenings we enjoyed the coziness of lighting the log burner. As it was springtime the surrounding fields were full of baby lambs, however even though the house is in the countryside, it has the benefit of the shops and restaurants take away only during our stay of Ponteland being a short drive away. I found the owners very helpful and accommodating. It was a very enjoyable few days.
What a beautiful house! We had a lovely stay. Everything was spotlessly clean, plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 children. It was an ideal staycation apart from the weather. We loved the sound system, the baths, showers and views from the windows. Our grandchildren enjoyed the garden and playing in the study with their toys. The beds were comfy and there was enough seating in the lounge and room round the table for meals in the dining room. There was plenty to do in the area. Due to coronavirus we prebooked visits to Alnwick Gardens, Chesters Fort, Belsay Castle and gardens. Ponteland is a nice town with a large park to walk round and has plenty of places to eat, we had a lovely meal at the Blackbird Inn. We can highly recommend The Smithy and are looking at booking again for next year.
Angela
Good rural location but plenty of amenities within a few miles. We had thoroughly enjoyable time.
